Early changes:
What's New for 2026 tax year:
Charities: Non Itemizers can now deduct up to $1K for charities without itemizing. $2K for joint filers.
Donations on Schedule A itemzed deductions, are limited to the amount that they exceed .5% of adjusted gross income.
CHILD CARE: Maximum dependent care credit increases to $1500 for one child and $3K for two or more children dependents.
GAMBLING - Losses are limited to 90% of winnings, down from 100%
ENERGY EFFICIENT: Credits for electric cars and energy efficient home improvements are gone.
1099's and 1099NEC's: filing threshold increases from $600 of earnings to $2000. This is also for gambling W2G's.
Mileage rate is 72.5 cents per mile.
OBBB - changes from last year still in effect: no tax on qualified overtime, no tax on qualified tips, and $6,000 credit for taxpayers 65 or older, $12K for married couple, interest on a car loan for a car bought in 2026, and made in America.
