Getting Started
WHAT WE WILL NEED (but not limited to):
. Photo ID - Federal and State law now requires us to see your photo ID
· Social Security Cards for taxpayer, spouse and all dependents if we did not prepare your return last year
· A copy of your prior-year tax return if we did not prepare your return last year
Getting Started:
BUSINESSES – SOLE PROPERTIERSHIP AND LLC’S
Both of the above will be reported on Schedule C. I will need income and expenses for
each business that you have a schedule C for. I do not need your actual receipts.
Please make a list of expenses for me and keep the receipts in a safe place in case
they are needed.
Please bring any 1099NEC’s you received for your business income as well as any
1099MISC that you received. The 1099NEC’s will be your income. Not all vendors issue
a 1099NEC so it is best to take your income from your bank statements.
RENTAL PROPERTY – Income and Expenses for renting out property. Mortgage,
taxes, etc.
FOREIGN INCOME – Any foreign income statements you received
Income
W-2 (Wage statements)
1099SA Social Security payments you and/or spouse received.
1099R (Pension, IRA and other retirement income statements)
1099 INT (Interest Income statements)
1099 DIV (Dividend income statements)
1099 G (Unemployment or state refund statements)
1099 W2G (Gambling winnings statements)
1099B (Proceeds from Broker and Barter Exchange Transactions) Please give me
the whole brokerage statement, not just the first few pages)
1099S (Sale of home or real estate)
1099K (Credit Card and Third Party Network Transactions)
1099NEC (non employee compensation)
1099Misc for Misc income
1099C – Cancellation of Debt (credit cards, etc.)
1099HSA – If you have a Health Savings Plan
Crypto Currency trading information in an electronic excel or xml format.
Any document that has 1099 in the number I will need. These are always income
of some sort.
Health Insurance Statements
Form 1095-A, 1095-B, 1095-C, Employee Insurance Coverage and Marketplace Insurance
Deductible Expense Statements
1098 (Mortgage interest statement)
Property Tax Statement if the amount isn’t on your mortgage statement.
Medical expenses, insurance, doctor, dentist, chiropractor, etc.
1098T (Tuition and fee payments for college and continuing education programs)
1098E (Student loan interest payments)
Child care records including: Name, address, EIN, and amount paid to childcare
provider
Receipts and records of charitable contributions
New to Oregon? Please bring your prior-year out-of-state tax return
In the U.S. under a student or working visa? - Please bring your passport and Visa.
Employee business expenses – currently they are not deductible on federal, but
they are on Oregon and California state tax returns.
SALE OF HOME:
If you’ve sold a home last tax year, I will need the Settlement statements (closing
disclosures) of both the purchase and the sale of the home. If it is rental property, I
will also need both statements. Likewise if you purchased a home, I will need the
settlement statement (closing disclosure) to pick up any deductible items.
